Ann Buxton, a new Woodleigh Chase resident who moved to the Erickson Senior Living community in Fairfax, Va., from Camano Island, Wash., recalls that she was especially impressed by the community’s easy access to top-quality health care.
One of the many advantages of living at Woodleigh Chase is the ability to take a brief walk indoors to your doctor’s office at the on-campus medical center.
“It was a completely new concept to me,” says Ann. “In Washington, my doctor was a 25-minute drive from me, and my specialists were 45 minutes to an hour away. So, I loved the idea of having a medical center just downstairs from my apartment.”
The doctor is in
Staffed with full-time physicians and nurse practitioners, it’s convenient for Ann and her neighbors to receive senior-focused care at the medical center.
“Our dedicated medical team consists of seasoned health care professionals who have a great passion for caring for our patients. We work tirelessly on their behalf,” says Dr. Ke Sun, a physician at Woodleigh Chase.
Residents appreciate that annual wellness visits and telehealth check-ins are available.
“What sets Woodleigh Chase’s health care apart is the accessibility,” notes Sun. “Residents can walk to the medical center or grab a community shuttle. Having the medical center on campus really enhances our ability to see residents consistently.”
In addition, once all buildings are complete at Woodleigh Chase, the community will feature an on-site continuing care neighborhood with multiple levels of care, including inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, home health, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing. This will ensure residents’ needs are met, if or when they change in the future.
Person-centered care
Unlike most medical practices, the medical center at Woodleigh Chase offers 60-minute new patient appointments, and all subsequent visits last 30 minutes. This grants physicians ample time to address residents’ questions and concerns.
Sun adds, “This dedication and commitment to not only treating but also getting to know patients on a personal level extends throughout the practice.”
Residents appreciate the relationships they form with staff members in the medical center.
“Dr. Sun is wonderful. He’s friendly and knowledgeable. The entire staff is just so kind and caring. It’s really just been amazing,” says Ann.
Whether you use the on-campus medical center as your primary care or continue to see the doctors you visited before your move, all residents have access to the medical center for flu shots and screenings, as needed.
Always available
The medical center also works closely with members of the Woodleigh Chase security team, who are trained and certified in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED) by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
If resident needs help after medical center hours, security is prepared to respond within minutes.
“Residents have peace of mind that, in case of an emergency, they have access to assistance 24/7,” says Sun. “The security team also has access to your medical information, such as medications, allergies, and medical history, to best treat you and your symptoms.”
Ann appreciates that peace of mind. “I feel covered, knowing that the security team is trained for emergencies and that there is always someone available,” says Ann.
And if a resident does contact security, a physician at the medical center will follow up. Having an engaged team on your side results in better outcomes and greater quality of care, now and in the future.
‘Really happy’
Although she’s a long way from the West Coast, Ann has no regrets about moving to Woodleigh Chase.
“I’m really happy to be living here,” says Ann. “Every day, I think to myself how many people–especially at my age–get to have this kind of a wonderful new experience. It’s just been great!”
