Rob Joyce Joins DataTribe as Venture Partner

FULTON, Md.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Rob Joyce, former Cybersecurity Director at the National Security Agency, White House Cybersecurity Director, and acting Homeland Security Advisor under President Trump, has joined DataTribe as a venture partner. DataTribe is the leading global cyber foundry that invests in and co-builds next-generation cybersecurity and data science companies.

Joyce will leverage over 34 years of experience protecting the nation’s most classified and sensitive networks to help identify and grow early-stage startups focused on solving the most difficult and impactful cybersecurity challenges to U.S. national security.

“From our digital identities to the connectedness of the digital devices we rely on daily, we are all vulnerable to increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks with dire consequences,” Joyce said. “Innovative technology solutions are critical tools to restore safety in the online space. I am excited to work with DataTribe to find entrepreneurs developing new and emerging technologies to bolster our cyber defenses.”

In addition to overseeing defense measures at the NSA, Joyce also led the Tailored Access Operations (TAO) and Computer Network Operations (CNO) organizations, working with internal hackers to penetrate our adversaries’ networks to produce foreign intelligence. Playing on both offense and defense gave Joyce better insight into the mind of a hacker, improving our ability to defend against cyber attacks. He will now be able to share this strategic thinking with DataTribe’s portfolio companies and offer them new ways to think about their technologies and services.

“Few cybersecurity leaders are as respected as Rob Joyce,” said Rob Ackerman, Managing Director at DataTribe. “His leadership in cybersecurity at the highest levels of government provides invaluable insight and expertise that will be a tremendous asset to our current and future portfolio companies. Rob will continue fostering the safety and security of American citizens, workers, military, and government officials by working with DataTribe to advance state-of-the-art cyber defense.”

DataTribe’s unique foundry model—which provides access to capital and product management, marketing, sales, engineering, legal, and finance expertise—and location in Maryland allow it to nurture the impressive talent pool of cybersecurity professionals with experience at agencies such as the National Security Agency (NSA), the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), US CyberCOMMAND, and the defense industry.

DataTribe companies get exclusive access to an extensive network of strategic partners and advisors. The firm invests in over-the-horizon cybersecurity solutions to defeat the most aggressive, creative, and persistent offensive cybercriminals. DataTribe has provided seed investments for some of the cyber industry’s fastest-growing and most disruptive cyber companies, including Dragos, Strider, ENVEIL, BlackCloak, and SixMap.
