Lorien Assisted Living Names Brian Kelley Director of Dining Services at Lorien Harmony Hall

Lorien Assisted Living, a family-owned assisted living company and industry innovator, announced today that it has named Brian Kelley Director of Dining Services at Lorien Harmony Hall, one of the first assisted living communities developed in Maryland.

Kelley will lead the transformation of Harmony Hall’s dining offerings, oversee four dining venues, and reimagine the resident experience. Under his direction, the team has already opened a new country kitchen serving Alzheimer’s residents, and fully revamped the main dining room to create a more elegant, independent-living ambiance.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Brian to Lorien Harmony Hall,” said Lou Grimmel, Sr., CEO of Lorien Health Services. “His passion for enhancing our resident’s dining experience aligns perfectly with our commitment to excellence. Brian’s innovative approach, love for food, and passion for creating meaningful connections with colleagues and residents is already making a positive impact at Lorien.”

Kelley’s approach emphasizes not only fine dining but also fostering connections with residents, a perspective shaped by his early career as a chef and his experience in senior living settings.

“Dining is incredibly personal, especially in assisted living,” Kelley explained. “I tell my team that we have the privilege of impacting our residents’ lives three times a day. Outside of healthcare, it’s one of the most meaningful choices they control, and I want to ensure every meal touches their hearts and nourishes their souls.”

Kelley began his career as a chef, where he honed his culinary skills and developed a passion for food and hospitality. After years in the restaurant industry, he sought a change that would allow him to make a more lasting impact on people’s lives. His journey into senior living began in hospitals, but it was in nursing and assisted living communities where he found his home.

His career spans more than 20 years in hospitality and healthcare dining, with experience in multi-unit management, menu development, and customer service. Before joining Lorien, Kelley held several leadership roles at other assisted care facilities where he enhanced dining services to create a more community-oriented environment. Kelley is excited about Harmony Hall’s future.

“The vision for Harmony Hall is to make it a true center of excellence,” Kelley said. “We want to create the feel of independent dining, and we’re setting ourselves up to grow as we add more residents and elevate our services further.”

Kelley graduated from Baltimore’s Culinary Arts Institute in 1987, earning an Associate’s degree in Restaurant, Culinary, and Catering Management.
