Wes Guckert, PTP, President and CEO of The Traffic Group, has been honored with two awards recognizing outstanding military veteran business owners making a difference in the community, particularly with service members.
In November, Guckert was one of six recipients to receive a Governor’s citation during the 2024 Veteran-Owned Small Business Enterprise (VSBE) Appreciation Breakfast hosted by the Maryland Live Casino and The Governor’s Office of Small, Minority & Women Business Affairs (GOSBA).
For the third year in a row, six very deserving VSBEs were celebrated for the legacy they are leaving in Maryland. The six VSBE honorees are:
- Joshua Buxton, BUXTON MEDIA PRODUCTIONS
- Andra Cain, CAIN CONTRACTING, INC
- Cheryl Ford, ATHOSI LLC
- Joe Giordano, PROJECT OPPORTUNITY
- Wes Guckert, THE TRAFFIC GROUP INC
- Sharon Jacobs, STRATEGIC ALLIQNCES GROUP, INC
Additionally, Guckert was the receipient of the Veterans in Business Patriot Warrior Award from the VETCON Alliance. The mission of the Veterans in Business Awards is to recognize Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Businesses that have exhibited exemplary achievements in areas of patriotism, leadership, community service, business activity, and more.
Specifically, the Patriot Award recognizes the SDVOB that has continued to exhibit patriotism to their country, to veterans, and to active and reserve service members after trading their uniform for civilian attire.
The Traffic Group is a certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) by the Department of Veteran Affairs as a result of Wes Guckert’s service in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Guckert earned both of these honors through not only his tireless work in the community – much of it on behalf of veterans and members of the military – but he is also a highly respected authority in the fields of traffic engineering and transportation planning. With more than 40 years experience, he has played a major role in nearly 10,000 urban and suburban area projects throughout the United States and internationally.
He is also a former Instructor at Harvard University and a member of Texas A&M Transportation Technology Advisory Council, RELLIS Campus Development for transportation technology research and testing, and the Texas A&M Campus Transportation Technology Initiative deployment. He is also Past Chair of the Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) Public Development Infrastructure Council.
A Fellow with the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), Guckert is also a regular speaker nationally, presenting to groups such as NAIOP, the International Council of Shopping Center’s RECon, the Intelligent Transportation Society’s ITS America, ITE’s Annual Meeting, the National Parking Association’s Convention & Expo, and numerous ULI events.
In addition to his busy professional schedule, he has never wavered in his contribution to the community. The Traffic Group makes it a point to contribute to 20 different organizations annually and employees are encouraged to get involved in charities that are important to them. Writing checks is helpful to any organization, however, spending time volunteering is more important and needed in respective communities. Recently, Guckert became a founding member of the Queen Anne’s County Veteran and Military Support Alliance (VAMSA). The national center was created to provide critically needed resources and support for service members, veterans, their families, and caregivers.
