
The Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) Boston Metropolitan Chapter No. 4 held its annual Economic Forecast and Past President Recognition Luncheon on January 15th at Granite Links in Quincy. The event offered valuable insights into the economic outlook for the Greater Boston multifamily real estate market and honored past chapter presidents.
Presented by Dion Sorrentino, Associate Director of Market Analytics, CoStar Group and Dustin Weaver, Market Analyst with the Data Analytics division of Real Page, the event also featured speaker Stephen DiPrete, Chief Commercial Banking Officer at South Shore Bank.
The address covered several key topics, including economic influences on apartment demand, the state of commercial real estate lending, market trends affecting the real estate industry in the Boston area, growth in industrial and multi-family sectors, and a national examination of supply and demand, rents, and occupancy rates, with a specific focus on the Boston area.
Sorrentino analyzed market trends across multifamily, office, industrial, and retail markets in the Greater Boston area, offering insights into transaction data and future outlooks, while Weaver provided an overview of the U.S. and regional apartment markets, focusing on supply and demand dynamics, rent trends, and occupancy rates. DiPrete discussed the state of commercial real estate lending, highlighting growth in industrial and multifamily sectors.
The speakers pointed to a Boston area housing market that continues to experience high demand and to multifamily and industrial sectors that are showing strong growth. Also addressed was the expected economic growth in the Boston area, supported by stable employment and gradual interest rate cuts. This growth is anticipated to positively impact various sectors, including real estate.

The January 15th event also shined a light on past presidents of the IREM Boston Chapter, celebrating their contributions and leadership that has shaped the chapter’s success over the years.
