His contributions to curriculum development, faculty mentorship, and accreditation have helped shape the future of the profession, ensuring that students are prepared to deliver ethical, culturally sensitive care.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Mesa to the Board of Directors of Foot Print to Success Clubhouse,” said Barbara Harmon, CEO of Foot Print to Success Clubhouse. “Dr. Mesa’s dedication to advancing occupational therapy and mental health care aligns perfectly with our mission to empower individuals with severe mental illnesses to regain independence and reintegrate into society.”

Since its founding nearly 15 years ago, Foot Print to Success Clubhouse has been a beacon of hope for adults with severe mental illnesses. Through job training, social skills development, and partnerships with affordable housing developers, the organization offers a proven pathway to independence and community reintegration. Foot Print to Success has enabled its members to secure jobs, generating nearly $2 million in wages. The Clubhouse’s support has also saved the community millions by preventing costly psychiatric hospital stays.

Throughout his career, Dr. Mesa has been a strong advocate for mental health, particularly in the context of individuals living with chronic conditions. His contribution to research, including on the mental health needs of individuals with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), has been published and has been presented at conferences and academic institutions. His expertise in mental health extends to his certifications as a Certified Group Facilitation Specialist (CGFS) and Certified Youth Mental Health Specialist (CYMHS), which complement his extensive training and practical experience.

Dr. Mesa’s leadership extends beyond clinical practice and academia. He has served as a consultant and mentor to various healthcare organizations, developed grant proposals to fund therapeutic programs, and worked on community outreach initiatives to increase brand awareness and engage stakeholders in supporting mental health initiatives.

Dr. Mesa earned his Doctor of Occupational Therapy (DrOT) from Nova Southeastern University, where he graduated with the highest honors.
