Q&A with Sergei Kaminskiy, Founder of Kaminskiy Commercial Construction and Kaminskiy Care and Repair

Sergei Kaminskiy is a self-made entrepreneur, investor, and business influencer known for his expertise in the home remodeling industry. After immigrating to the U.S. from Siberia in 1993, he launched a small handyman business in 2005, which grew into Kaminskiy Design & Remodeling, a nationally recognized remodeling firm. His portfolio now includes Kaminskiy Commercial ConstructionKaminskiy Care and Repair (a scalable handyman franchise), and strategic investments in manufacturing, healthcare, and commercial real estate. A  leader and industry disruptor, Sergei is passionate about innovation, customer experience, and mentorship.

Your journey from immigrating to the U.S. from Siberia to becoming a successful entrepreneur is incredibly inspiring. Can you take us back to the early days? What motivated you to start your first business, and how did those experiences shape your leadership style?

Absolutely. When my family immigrated to the U.S., I was just seven years old. We moved to a rough area in the East Bay and shared a small two-bedroom apartment. My dad had a successful career in Russia but had to start from scratch here, which was a huge sacrifice. Watching him rebuild his life inspired me—I knew I needed to do more than just get a regular job. He eventually started an import-export business, and seeing him work gave me an early glimpse into entrepreneurship. Even as a kid, I knew I wanted to own a business, and by seventh grade, while other kids dreamed of being doctors or firefighters, I was set on becoming an entrepreneur. Years later, that vision led to Kaminskiy Design and Remodeling, a full-service home renovation company that has become a leader in high-end remodeling, helping homeowners bring their dream spaces to life with quality craftsmanship and design expertise. That success also paved the way for Kaminskiy Care and Repair, which provides homeowners with a premium handyman service designed to maintain and enhance their homes with the same attention to quality and service that built our remodeling business.

You started Care+Repair as a small handyman service, and now it’s turning into a franchise. What were some key turning points that fueled its expansion?

We’ve been in business since 2005, and a major turning point came in 2022 when a childhood friend approached me about entering the home improvement industry. He had been successful in car sales but saw that market declining and wanted to pivot. Instead of just mentoring him, I suggested we open a Kaminskiy location in East Bay together. That experience helped me realize how scalable our business model was. I then partnered with another entrepreneur with experience in multi-location businesses, and we developed a plan to franchise. That’s how Kaminskiy Care and Repair as a Franchise was born—focused on teaching blue-collar entrepreneurs how to run a successful business with strong marketing, systems, and processes.

What do you foresee for the growth of Kaminskiy Care and Repair in the  space?

Right now, we’re focused on rapidly scaling across the U.S. and Canada, but this is definitely an international business opportunity. Our model works anywhere- as homeowners everywhere need reliable, high-quality handyman services. What sets us apart is our ability to lower customer acquisition costs while helping entrepreneurs build a premium service brand. We provide training, administrative support, and pricing strategies that allow franchisees to charge higher rates while delivering superior service. The goal is to make this the leading handyman service globally.

Your social media presence has grown exponentially, now surpassing 4 million followers. How have you leveraged social media to grow your businesses and personal brand?

Social media is a game-changer. It’s my portfolio—it shows what I do and helps spread my message. I have a full-time team dedicated to content creation and social media management. If you’re not leveraging social media in business today, you’re missing out. It’s where people spend their time, whether for entertainment or business opportunities. We use it strategically to promote our brand, engage with customers, and attract franchisees.

Care and Repair is known for prioritizing customer experience. What key strategies have you implemented to ensure top-tier service?

We’re not a typical handyman service—we’re a premium brand. Our technicians are carefully vetted, background-checked, and have a minimum of 10 years of experience. They arrive in branded vehicles, wear professional uniforms, and maintain at least a 4.5-star rating. We offer a one-year warranty on all work, with an option to extend it to two years. Additionally, we provide a Premier Maintenance Plan, which includes routine home checkups, smoke detector battery replacements, air filter changes, and preventive maintenance. This approach ensures customer homes stay in great condition while reinforcing long-term relationships.

What new ventures or expansions are you considering outside of Care and Repair?

Care and Repair is our entry point, but our vision extends beyond that. We’re currently developing Kaminskiy Kitchen and Bath, a natural extension given the demand from our existing customers. Many clients already ask our team if they can handle larger projects, and we’re positioning ourselves to service that market. Our goal is to introduce additional verticals under the Kaminskiy brand, including HVAC, restoration, and remediation. This layered approach allows us to provide comprehensive home services while maximizing the lifetime value of each customer.

What motivates you as an entrepreneur? What drives you every morning?

Right now, my biggest motivator is helping others succeed. It’s not just about growing the Kaminskiy brand or selling franchises—it’s about creating real success stories. I genuinely care about my franchisees and want to see them thrive. There are too many franchise models out there that focus on selling without ensuring success. We’re different—we refine our processes continuously and listen to franchisee feedback. Seeing our operators transform their lives and build successful businesses is what truly drives me. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that we’re making a real impact.
