Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Elects Corey Thomas as Board Chair; Names Peter Long to Board

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts today announced two changes to its board of directors: Corey Thomas, chairman and chief executive officer of cybersecurity company Rapid7, will now serve as board chair, and Peter Long, former executive vice president, strategy and health solutions at Blue Shield of California, will join as a board member.

“Corey and Peter are extraordinary individuals with exceptional leadership and expertise,” said Sarah Iselin, Blue Cross’ president and CEO. “Corey’s experience leading a complex organization going through change will continue to benefit our company as we further evolve to meet the needs of our members. Peter’s strong track record in policy, strategy and clinical operations will be invaluable to our mission and work.”

“It’s been a privilege to work with such a strong management team at Blue Cross over the past seven years,” said Thomas. “I’m humbled and excited about this new role and look forward to partnering with Sarah, her leadership team and other members of the Board to advance our mission and to serve the people and employers of Massachusetts.”

Previously, Long served as president and chief executive officer of Blue Shield of California Foundation. Long’s broader experience includes publishing research on a variety of national and state level health policy issues.
