National Lutheran Communities & Services remains optimistic and committed to bringing The Village at Providence Point* to Annapolis, as the project awaits a ruling from the Appellate Court of Maryland following oral arguments held February 7 in Annapolis.
“Our legal team outlined the facts and made our position exceptionally clear so we can put this issue to rest and move on with bringing a world-class retirement community to Annapolis,” said Cyndi Walters, president and chief executive officer of National Lutheran Communities & Services.
“Our core mission is to empower freedom and purpose among older adults,” Walters continued. “The Village at Providence Point is more than just a development—with a positive ruling we will create a community where lifelong contributors to Annapolis can live with dignity, independence and meaningful connection.”
Walters thanked the many community members and future Providence Point residents who turned out in support and to hear the oral arguments at the Robert C. Murphy Courts of Appeal Building in Annapolis.
The Village at Providence Point has already secured unanimous approval from the Annapolis Planning Commission and received strong support from the City Council along with community-wide support. The project promises to deliver significant benefits to the community, including:
– Housing options for older adults who wish to remain in the city they helped build.
– Creation of new jobs and generation of essential tax revenue.
– Continued support from residents and environmental experts across the community.
– Extensive environmental protections, including a $500,000 stormwater remediation plan for Crab Creek.
– Conservation of 124 acres of forested land through permanent easements.
– Preservation of an additional 143 acres from future development.
Future residents of Providence Point are longtime Annapolis business leaders, volunteers, and community supporters who have dedicated decades to raising families and contributing to the city’s growth. Together, they have donated tens of millions of dollars to benefit local medical services, historic preservation, the arts, education and other groups. Providence Point will provide them with a unique opportunity to continue being active participants in the area they love.
The Village at Providence Point is expected to open within 28 months of construction commencing, offering a Life Plan Community just ten minutes from downtown Annapolis, with comprehensive amenities designed to support residents’ independence and well-being.
