With consumer expectations for rapid, accurate delivery driving unprecedented changes in supply chains, Caddell Construction is at the forefront of transforming logistics facilities to meet demand. By retrofitting existing real estate with state-of-the-art automation, Caddell is helping clients keep pace with the e-commerce revolution, which shows no signs of slowing in the near future. According to CapitalOne, U.S. retail e-commerce sales for 2024 were expected to reach $1.37 trillion, which is up more than 10% from 2023.
How can retailers keep up with surging demand from consumers who want to buy online and want their products delivered at lightning speed? Amid commercial real estate headwinds and a trend toward reshoring, many companies are choosing retrofits over new builds to enhance facility efficiency and extend asset value. Caddell has led more than 25 automation projects nationwide, integrating advanced robotics, conveyor systems and automated workflows into existing facilities.
“Retrofitting an operational facility with advanced automation is an extremely challenging endeavor,” said Justin Spafford, Caddell Construction. “Our expertise in coordinating with customers, end-users, and robotic vendors allows us to deliver these complex projects with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.”
The warehouse automation market, valued at $19.2 billion, is forecasted to grow to over $22.8 billion by 2030. This trend mirrors a larger shift in industrial automation with a market size projected to increase from $206.3 billion in 2024 to $228.7 billion by 2030, according to market research and consulting company Grandview Research.
As more companies bring manufacturing and logistics operations back to the U.S., automation retrofits enable businesses to meet heightened consumer expectations for speed and accuracy. Material handling automation has been shown to increase output by 300% in e-commerce operations, while 25% of online buyers are now paying premiums for same-day delivery.
Caddell’s current work includes nine automation projects across the U.S., where teams are retooling layouts, installing complex utility systems and coordinating the installation of miles of wiring and critical infrastructure. There are five more in preconstruction and scheduled to start in quarter two. This intricate work transforms legacy warehouses into efficient logistics hubs ready to serve the modern supply chain.
With 62% of U.S. businesses and 75% of European firms planning to invest in robotic automation by 2025, Caddell Construction is leading the modernization of supply chain infrastructure and helping their clients maintain competitiveness amid rapid industry evolution.
