The Atlantic Resiliency Innovation Institute’s Marshfield Coastal Academy to Host 2025 Spring Symposium

April 22-25 event designed for students in grades 8-12 interested in coastal resiliency and maritime engineering; April 1 sign-up deadline

Atlantic Resiliency Innovation Institute (ARII), a nonprofit organization focused on creating a science-based community to address coastal hazards and enhance regional resiliency, announces that the Marshfield Coastal Academy (MCA) will host the 2025 Spring Symposium during school vacation from April 22-25, starting from the Ventress Building, 76 South River Street, Marshfield.

The four-day symposium, aimed at students in grades 8-12 with an interest in coastal resiliency, maritime engineering, and related careers, will run daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Students from across the region will have the chance to meet with local, state, and federal officials to discuss measures being taken to address coastal erosion and other marine-related challenges. They will tour Marshfield’s coastline and inlets to observe the effects of annual coastal storms, and interact with professors from Bridgewater State University, Northeastern University, and the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, both in the field and in the classroom. Additionally, students will travel to Boston to hear from industry leaders in construction and engineering about coastal development management. They will also learn about coastal work being performed by the Army Corps of Engineers and visit project sites on Cape Cod.

“We are thrilled to offer this unique opportunity for students to engage with experts and leaders in the field of coastal resiliency and maritime careers,” said Jeremy Devaney, co-founder and executive director of the Atlantic Resiliency Innovation Institute. “The symposium will provide valuable experiences and insights that will inspire the next generation of problem-solvers and innovators.”

The program is limited to 24 students. The registration deadline is April 1, and the cost is $50. Students should bring their own lunch and wear comfortable clothes suitable for outdoor activities.
