The Community Recreation Center will feature a 103,000-square-foot, enclosed recreation building that will include four basketball and volleyball courts, a natatorium with a 10-lane competition swimming pool, a mezzanine running track, restrooms, office space, conference rooms and a concession stand with a kitchen. The exterior space will feature new hardscapes to accommodate food trucks, outdoor events and seating. There will also be an adjacent, small pavilion for community use. In addition to the existing five baseball fields, the updated park will feature walking trails overlooking Wilson Morgan Lake.
“We are looking forward to starting our first project with the City of Decatur and kicking off construction on this exciting, community-oriented project,” said Trippe Gray, Project Executive at Hoar. “The new Wilson Morgan Park will provide a much-needed space for a variety of athletics, events and outdoor activities. We are proud to add this facility to our track record of recreation center initiatives across the country and will remain dedicated to quality and safety for the entire community throughout the construction process.”
The building will be constructed using pre-cast walls, with decorative metal panels and a glass curtain wall. Before construction begins, Hoar will oversee the demolition and removal of the existing tennis courts, a soccer/football field, a softball field, wooden playground, sand boxes and part of the parking area.
Additional project partners include Fite Building Company as the construction manager and Goodwyn Mills Cawood as the architect.
As a leading builder in recreation centers, mostly in the higher-education sector, Hoar completed more than $217 million in total sector project volume in 2024 alone.
