When Mark Schnabel was planning his move to Greenspring, an Erickson Senior Living community in Springfield, Va., he was looking for a “right sized” residence to fit his lifestyle.
After reviewing an array of floor plans, he chose the Abbott, a studio residence.
“I like everything about my apartment home. It’s perfect for my lifestyle,” he says. “I especially like the size. There’s plenty of room for my queen-size bed and sofa.”
He adds, “And the reality is that I still have more space than I really need! My home is as big as many of the one-bedroom designs, just without the extra wall.”
“A lot of people are looking to rightsize to a space that better fits their lifestyle today and their future goals,” says Sales Director Franklin Funes. “Our studio and one-bedroom floor plans, like the Abbott and the Brighton, are the perfect blend of size and functionality.”
Choosing the right space
Moving to Greenspring from Brooklyn, N.Y., in October 2020, Juliana Herskovitz was also looking for the “right sized” space to meet her needs. She chose the Brighton, a one-bedroom, one-bath floor plan.
“I absolutely love my Brighton, for many reasons,” says Juliana. “I love that it is bright and airy. ‘Brighton’ is a very appropriate name for my ‘bright’ home! I have a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape and trees, and the spectacular sunsets are a special treat.”
With an extra-wide picture window, full-size walk-in closet, open living area, and spacious kitchen equipped with modern appliances, it’s no surprise that the Brighton is Greenspring’s most popular residence.
She continues, “The layout is perfectly suited for my needs. I have all the space I need. My bedroom is large enough to accommodate my bedroom set, while still providing room for my office desk and computer. What’s more, I’ve hosted up to eight people for dinner in my living room. I also have everything I need in my kitchen and ample closet space for my wardrobe.”
World of opportunities
With less upkeep to worry about, Mark and Juliana note that, most of the time, they’re enjoying Greenspring’s amenities and services, many of which are just steps from their homes.
The community boasts a state-of-the-art fitness center, new pickleball court, seven restaurants, and a performing arts theater–just to name a few. There are also more than 170 clubs, groups, and activities to choose from, providing lots of opportunities to pursue passions and make new friends.
“When I first began thinking about moving to Greenspring, it was the nice apartment homes that appealed to me,” says Mark. “However, once I moved, I was pleasantly surprised by the people. They add so much to my life here. One of my favorite things to do is sit and chitchat with neighbors.”
Mark, with several marathons and ultramarathons under his belt, understands the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle and is glad he gets to do so at Greenspring.
“I walk a lot–157 miles last week,” he says. “Greenspring is a great location. I can easily walk to St. Bernadette’s, just three miles away, and the Little League field where I used to coach.”
Juliana also maintains a busy schedule serving as a library volunteer, resident ambassador, and chair of the monthly Shabbat dinner. She organizes dinners for residents on her floor, Rummikub games, and Friday happy hours as well.
“My volunteer work is the most rewarding. [Greenspring] affords me the opportunity to use my free time in a meaningful way,” she says. “It also allows me time to enjoy numerous other activities, including working out in the fitness center, attending concerts, participating in card games, and joining the local trips to the Kennedy Center and Smithsonian museums.”
Financially sound decision
With an occupancy rate of nearly 100%, Greenspring’s residences are in high demand. If you’re interested in rightsizing your living space and reserving a one-bedroom or a studio floor plan, now’s your chance!
“Everyone I meet who is interested in a move to Greenspring is eager to make a financially sound decision for their future,” says Funes. “Our studio and one-bedroom homes offer that peace of mind with a smaller entrance fee and a lower monthly service package. And with less upkeep, you’ll have more time to enjoy everything on campus!”
“I knew I wanted to live at Greenspring, but I also knew that I wanted to pay a smaller amount to do so. For me, a studio apartment home offered the best of both worlds,” agrees Mark.
