WASHINGTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today, Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) named Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) its March 2025 Porker of the Month for trying to unfreeze grants for green school buses.
Sen. Capito wants to force taxpayers to pay for green energy school buses since they are manufactured in her state. West Virginia’s project has already spent $30 million, and Sen. Capito wants to unfreeze the remaining $895 million. The funds come from a $5 billion EPA clean (green) school bus program that is so far behind schedule it will take 350 years for all 8,731 buses to get to a school district. Even though Sen. Capito claims that, “Trimming fat out of government, we all know it needs to be done,” it’s evident that she wants to keep a big slice of bacon for herself.
CAGW President Tom Schatz said, “Sen. Capito needs to get on board with President Trump’s efforts to reduce wasteful spending. Instead, she is hellbent on having taxpayers fund grants for green energy school buses. It has been proven that green school buses cost up to four times more than traditional buses and do not make a difference for the environment. Sen. Capito needs to practice what she preaches and ‘trim the fat out of government’ instead of wasting money on green initiatives. For this reason, Sen. Capito was an easy choice for March Porker of the Month.”
Citizens Against Government Waste is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government. For more than two decades, Porker of the Month is a dubious honor given to lawmakers and government officials who have shown a blatant disregard for the taxpayers.
