Woburn Mother-and-Daughter Team Nora and Emma Oliver Inspire Goodyear Elementary with Message of Diligence

Goodyear Elementary School in Woburn welcomed a special mother-daughter duo on Friday, March 28, as Nora Oliver and her seven-year-old daughter, Emma Oliver, took center stage to introduce “Diligence” as the school’s Outer Character Trait for April.

Their inspiring speech captivated students, teachers, staff, and distinguished guests, including Woburn’s mayor, the school superintendent, and even three therapy dogs accompanied by police officers from Harvard University.

The Olivers are no strangers to diligence themselves. As co-authors of three self-help children’s books—Emma and Mommy’s Magical HeartsLuna’s Journey to Find Herself, and I’m Growing Up Big, Learning to Handle New Feelings—they exemplify perseverance and dedication. Their books explore themes of confidence, adventure, and emotional growth—perfectly aligning with the Woburn Public Schools District’s values, which emphasize striving for excellence, staying disciplined, and overcoming challenges.

During their speech, Nora and Emma shared personal stories about the power of persistence. Emma, a budding gymnast and soccer player, encouraged her peers to embrace mistakes as part of the learning process. “I had to practice over and over again. Sometimes I fell, sometimes I messed up, but I didn’t quit. Every time I tried again, I got a little better!” she told the crowd.

Nora, a published author and life coach, reflected on the long and sometimes difficult process of writing their books. “There were moments we felt stuck, but we didn’t give up. And because of that, we created something that can help other kids just like you!” she shared.

To make the message even more meaningful, the Olivers challenged students to embrace diligence by setting personal goals for the month—whether in school, sports, or friendships—and committing to daily effort, even when things get tough.

The event was a powerful reminder that success isn’t about being perfect—it’s about showing up, working hard, and never giving up. With their inspiring words and real-life example, Nora and Emma Oliver have left a lasting impact on the students of Goodyear Elementary, encouraging them to approach challenges with determination and heart.
