Brinkley Morgan is pleased to announce that Partner Jodi Furr Colton has been appointed as Chair of the 15th Judicial Circuit Local Professionalism Panel (LPP). Established by Order of the Florida Supreme Court in 2023, the Local Professionalism Panels operate within each judicial circuit to address complaints of unprofessional conduct in the legal profession.
Each Local Professionalism Panel consists of local attorneys and judges appointed by the Chief Judge of the circuit. The panel is responsible for informally addressing referrals of alleged unprofessional conduct by attorneys practicing in that circuit. In cases of severe misconduct, the panel has the authority to escalate complaints to The Florida Bar. Prior to her appointment as Chair, Ms. Colton has served on the 15th Judicial Circuit Local Professionalism Panel since its inception.
“Jodi’s appointment as Chair reflects her dedication to integrity and professionalism in the legal community,” said John Lambros, Managing Partner at Brinkley Morgan. “We are proud to have her represent the firm in this important role.”
Ms. Colton has also previously served on the Florida Bar Grievance Committee for the 15th Judicial Circuit (15G) and as Co-Chair of the Professionalism Committee of the South Palm Beach County Bar Association.
“I am honored to serve as Chair of the 15th Judicial Circuit Local Professionalism Panel and work alongside dedicated attorneys and judges to uphold the highest standards of professionalism,” said Colton. “Now more than ever, ensuring professionalism and integrity in the legal community is essential, and I look forward to contributing to these efforts.”
Jodi Colton is a graduate of Harvard Law School and a Partner at Brinkley Morgan. Her practice is exclusively focused on family law matters, including divorce, parental responsibility/ timesharing and paternity matters for high net worth individuals. In addition, Ms. Colton regularly drafts and negotiates prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.
Ms. Colton’s legal career began in the New York City office of Latham & Watkins and she also practiced at large firms in Philadelphia and Minneapolis where she worked on a broad range of litigation matters in federal and state courts. Ms. Colton draws upon her background in commercial litigation to assist her clients in sophisticated family law matters. She routinely represents high net worth and high-profile clients in cases involving valuation and equitable distribution of financial and business assets, including closely held corporations, professional practices, real estate, deferred compensation plans, and stock plans, as well as timesharing and parental responsibility/custody issues.
Ms. Colton is also a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Law Mediator and an Accredited Collaborative Attorney. She believes that most family law cases can, and should, be resolved without protracted litigation. Ms. Colton has found that a well-negotiated settlement is often the most effective way to achieve the best possible resolution for her clients facing complex and multifaceted divorces and other family law matters. However, when a negotiated settlement is not possible, Ms. Colton zealously advocates on behalf of her clients to help them achieve their desired outcome through litigation.
Ms. Colton is AV Preeminent Rated by Martindale-Hubbell. An active member of the community, she currently serves as Chair of the 15th Judicial Circuit Local Professionalism Panel and is involved in various local and statewide organizations.
While in law school, Ms. Colton served as President of the Harvard Mediation Program and as a mediation trainer and a mediator in Boston area courts. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Colton worked in the Office of the General Counsel for the U.S. House of Representatives. Ms. Colton lives in Delray Beach with her husband and their two children.
