citybiz+ Women’s Sports Media Startup Togethxr Closes Growth Capital Round

Los Angeles-based Togethxr, a four-year-old women’s sports media and commerce brand, has closed an undisclosed growth capital round led by co-founder Alex Morgan’s Irish firm, Trybe Ventures. Other participants included New York-based BBG Ventures of Susan Lyne, Olivia Walton’s Ingeborg Investments, Vansa Chatikavanij’s Present Ventures, whose offices include New York, Singapore’s Heraean Capital, Bright, Mass.-based Locker Room Capital, Checker Media, and Magnet Companies, which has offices in Los Angeles and New York.

Founded in 2021, Togethxr is the brainchild of sports media professional Jessica Robertson and professional athletes Morgan, Chloe Kim, Simone Manuel and Sue Bird. The startup focuses on creating sports content and merchandise, and claims annual revenue of $6 million. Its programs stream on platforms such as Amazon Prime and FuboTV, while its merchandise line uses the slogan, “Everyone Watches Women’s Sports.”

“Since our launch, the landscape of women’s sports has shifted dramatically. Viewership records have been shattered, consumer demand for women’s sports products has skyrocketed, and athletes are beginning to receive the recognition — and compensation — they’ve long deserved,” Jessica Robertson, chief content officer of Togethxr, wrote on LinkedIn to commemorate the startup’s fourth anniversary. Not too long ago, women’s sports made up less than 5% of all sports media, and 0.4% of total sports sponsorships were dedicated to women’s sports, she pointed out.

“The vision of Togethxr has always been bigger than sports. It’s been about reshaping the narrative,” said Robertson, who has held senior editorial positions at Rolling Stone, AOL and MTV. “The last four years have proven what many of us have always known: there is no shortage of talent or captivating narratives in women’s sports — only a shortage of investment.”

Robertson says Togethxr fills that gap, producing “premium content that amplified voices too often overlooked.” It has so far produced documentaries such as “Power of the Dream,” and TV series including “Surf Girls” and “The Syd and TP Show.”

Togethxr says it doubled revenue over the past year, and turned profitable in 2024. It claims to be the fastest-growing women’s sports brand, and the largest women’s sports brand on TikTok, with 2.5 million followers.
