The Morgan State University Police Department has scheduled its 3rd annual Morgan Public Safety Day on Wednesday, April 23 at Northwood Commons in Baltimore City. The mission of the event, which will run from 3pm to 7pm on the grounds of the shopping center located at 1500 Havenwood Road, is to gather students, police officers and other stakeholders to create a positive bond between law enforcement and the local community, and initiate constructive dialogue aimed at ensuring a safer environment.

Among the corporate sponsors and participants are Auntie Anne’s, Barnes & Noble, Beauty Plus, DTLR, Fulton Bank, Georgia Peach, IHOP, Lidl, MCB Real Estate, Miss Toya’s Creole House, Pizza Hut, Sunny’s Subs, Tropical Smoothie Café, and Quickway Hibachi.

Food and entertainment highlights include a cookout sponsored by the Morgan State University Police Department, additional catering provided by Northwood Commons tenants, performances by the Morgan State University Marching Band, a live DJ, and free carnival games including inflatable basketball, football throw, and soccer kick.

Educational opportunities will be comprised of a financial literacy provided by Fulton Bank, information from the Baltimore City Health Department, and recruiting tables will be sponsored by Morgan State University and the Morgan State University Police Department.

“Community safety is considerably enhanced when the public and the police department collaborate, understand each other, and work to create transparency and trust,” said Lance Hatcher, Morgan State University Police Department’s Chief of Police. “This effort starts with education and we have found our annual public safety day is effective in breaking down barriers and raising awareness about pressing issues and challenges.”

Northwood Commons, a project developed by MCB Real Estate, MLR Partners and Northwood Shopping Center Partnership, features more than 100,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space and an additional 20,000 square foot Morgan State University Public Safety building, as well as a Barnes & Noble college bookstore with a Starbucks Coffee, to serve the needs of Morgan State University students, faculty, visitors, and surrounding community. The center is anchored by Lidl Supermarket and includes tenants such as McDonald’s, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Fulton Bank, The Harbor Bank of Maryland, IHOP, Tropical Smoothie Café, Pizza Hut, ZIPS Cleaners, and Downtown Locker Room.
