SAN DIEGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–GEICO looks to add to its robust workforce in San Diego by hiring new associates as soon as possible in the fields of sales, customer service and claims, among others.
GEICO also recently increased the starting salary in its San Diego office, offers great benefits and is looking to hire people who have a positive attitude, enjoy helping others and like to work in a fast-paced environment.
For San Diego associate Amanda Coble, what drew her to GEICO initially was just a paycheck. It was the start of the economic recession in 2009 and with her husband being self employed as a contractor Coble knew she had to take steps to contribute to support her family. “With all that was going on, I really needed a stable income,” said Coble.
Prior to GEICO, Coble had always wanted to be a kindergarten teacher. While going to school for that, she worked at Circuit City in sales and did such a good job that Home Depot recruited her to join their team. She got married, had kids, and worked for the business at home when the kids were young.
Coble had always done well in work, but when she started at GEICO there was a bit of a learning curve. “While it was hard at first, GEICO did a great job training me. And, what I didn’t realize, was that the training would come in handy for my personal and future professional life,” Coble said.
Once she tackled the entry-level position, she realized she wanted to help other new hires starting their GEICO journeys. She quickly moved up in the regional office across different training departments, eventually becoming a manager.
“Along the way, it became clear that the reasons I wanted to be a teacher I could apply at GEICO. And, what strikes me, is that anything you want to be you can apply those reasons here. There are so many opportunities and job functions that you’ll eventually find one that fits exactly what you’re looking for,” Coble added.
At the moment, Coble is earning her degree in Business Management from Penn State, which GEICO is helping her afford. “I often tell people that GEICO is the best university there is, especially if you want to be a leader. I’ve learned how to put myself in someone else’s shoes and figure out why they are doing what they’re doing. Then, I can communicate better and solve problems – this training works in the office and at home with my kids and husband.”
Coble also sees San Diego reflected in the work/life balance. “Just like our region, the office is very upbeat and active. We work hard and celebrate our wins – like a big family,” Coble said.
Coble’s viewpoint is shared by many of her San Diego colleagues, according to Regional Vice President Greg Jacobi. “Our campus is centrally located. You can be at the beach or the mountains in 30 minutes. We are incredibly diverse with people from all walks of life. As a promote-from-within company, we do our best to ensure all new hires are given the tools and pathways to achieve their goals,” said Jacobi.
A member of the Berkshire Hathaway family of companies, GEICO is a stable company that was founded more than 80 years ago. The company’s Total Rewards benefits package includes health, dental and vision coverage, paid vacation and holidays, parental leave, and continuing education and tuition reimbursement.
When asked what she tells people about GEICO, Coble answered: “The greatest thing about GEICO is the opportunity. It’s not a job where you look at a board and see what hours you get and that’s it. It’s steady and you’re given the tools needed to excel – and, when you excel, you’re rewarded.”
