Hotel Revival Appoints Ryan Rhodes as First Director of Content and Sonic Identity

DJ Impulse’s new role kicks off with photography exhibit throughout hotel and limited edition “Impulse Blend” from Black Acres Roastery

The award-winning Hotel Revival, a JdV by Hyatt hotel located in the heart of Baltimore’s historic Mount Vernon neighborhood, is pleased to welcome Ryan Rhodes as its first director of content and sonic identity. Rhodes, who goes by and is more commonly known as DJ Impulse, joins the team in this official capacity as the hotel strengthens its focus on community impact efforts.

“I’m incredibly inspired by what takes place day-to-day at Hotel Revival,” said Impulse. “Having had the chance to work the team over this past year, I know that Hotel Revival is more than a place to put your head and a spot to grab a great meal. Revival is a hotel with a mission, and I’m really excited to help tell its stories.”

In this newly created position, Impulse will develop original content for the hotel’s owned media channels, including the social media accounts for the hotel, Topside and B-Side, telling the stories of Hotel Revival to increase awareness among external audiences of the company’s impact efforts and partnerships as well as an inside look at the hotel’s facilities and offerings to generate corporate and social bookings and individual reservations. To support this, Impulse will oversee all photography and videography for the hotel as well as the sonic identity.

“Sonic identity is more than knowing what song to play; it’s knowing where to play it, when, at what volume, what kind of speakers it should be played on, and who the DJ should be who’s going to understand all of that,” said Donte Johnson, general manager for Hotel Revival. “Impulse has the vision to tell our stories as well build deep connections through the sounds and music echoing through our space.”

A Baltimore native, Impulse has been moving crowds around the world for over 20 years from dance clubs and parties to working with some of the world’s most trusted brands including Nike, Red Bull, Vans, Food Network, MTV, Cisco, Chase Sapphire and more. Recently, Impulse curated a selection of music for the newly opened ‘Dashery Café located on the ground floor of Hotel Revival.

Impulse will work closely with Director of Culture and Impact Jason Bass, who develops and oversees the cultural programming and community impact efforts on behalf of the hotel. Of the many collaborations between the two, they will come together to curate Lit Lobby, in which local DJs play music on Friday and Saturday evenings from 4-7 p.m. to “set the vibe” for the peak guest arrival windows.

In addition, Impulse has an amazing eye for photography, which will be highlighted throughout the first and top floors of the hotel beginning today in an exhibit called “Awakening.” The exhibit of photographs features moments in Impulse’s life over the past two years.

In celebration of his joining the Hotel Revival team, the “Impulse Blend,” an exclusive coffee blend from Baltimore’s Black Acres Roastery will be available for purchase on-property. The limited Colombia and Kenya blend will be available beginning mid-month.

With social impact deeply rooted in its mission, the hotel strives to continue its community-focused, culturally driven efforts and seeks to share the stories of these efforts and the hotel’s local partners through Impulse’s work.
