New York-based Lingopal has closed a $14 million Series A funding round, raising the amount from angel investor Cory Levy and Poland’s AI Investments, according to Crunchbase.
Founded in 2023 by former Tesla engineer Casey Schneider and former Microsoft product manager Deven Orie, Lingopal uses AI to provide instant translations across multiple languages. The two worked together at New York-based online ticketing platform StubHub for about a year before turning entrepreneurs.
Schneider, who earned a BS degree in computer science from Michigan State University, serves as the startup’s chief technology officer, while Orie, who received a BS degree in computer science and economics from Dartmouth College, is CEO. At Microsoft, Orie oversaw Cloud + AI, claiming in his LinkedIn profile that he “[i]ncreased programmer collaboration by designing a full stack system to easily discover and ingest internally used Open Source Software across 1080 projects.”
“Lingopal AI is a game-changer for anyone looking to overcome language barriers and expand their video content’s global reach,” the company said in a blog post. “With its AI-powered translation capabilities, user-friendly interface, and seamless workflow, Lingopal AI empowers you to communicate with a worldwide audience like never before. Don’t let language be a barrier to your success.”
Levy is an investor and entrepreneur, notably starting a funding service called First Text for budding entrepreneurs, and a teen social network called After School with more than 20 million users.
“When I was 19 studying CS at UIUC, I was funded by Keith Rabois over a tweet. Now I’m returning the favor over text,” Levy says on his website, refering to University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Levy says he has invested in over 20 startups. Inn 2017, Levy was named in Forbes 30 Under 30 in the category of Consumer Technology and Dorm Room Founders.
